She was in such a state of agitation.

She read the letter a hundredth time, her eyes glued to that one paragraph. 

“What possessed him to ask me for a thing like that? ” she muttered while reading and re-reading it.

“Am I up to it?” she asked herself over and over again.

She stared at herself in the mirror for a minute. Then she calmly grabbed her bag, stepped out of the room, and closed the door behind her.
